UMAG SPORT
European City of Sport
In 2018, Umag won the title of European City of Sport. This very fact shows how much of a tradition and a vital, ever-growing part of Umag’s life sport has become.
Umag lives for sport, sport lives in Umag
If you ask someone who lives in Croatia what their first association is with Umag, they’ll probably say the ATP Croatia Open tournament, which has been held for nearly 30 years at Stella Maris Resort tennis centre. International names in tennis have played matches on the courts here, and scenes from the unique, shell-shaped stadium have been broadcast round the world.
Umag is a town of tennis. If you love the sport, you will hardly find a better place to practice your forehand.
But it’s not all about tennis. Umag and its residents simply love sports and active lifestyles. Football, handball, hall sports, water sports, running, cycling... The infrastructure is here, as is experience and tradition in hosting national and club teams. Tournaments, sporting events and gatherings take place all year round, all accompanied by world-class accommodation in beautiful locations.
FIFA QUALITY PRO
The Stella Maris Resort football pitch has been awarded the prestigious FIFA QUALITY PRO certificate.
The artificial turf football pitch at the Stella Maris Resort has been awarded the FIFA QUALITY PRO certificate. The certificate guarantees that the pitch has been constructed and is maintained in accordance with the highest technical standards set by the umbrella organisation for professional football competitions. Umag is one of only four cities in Croatia that can proudly boast this recognition.
The Zelena Laguna pitch in Poreč, as part of the sports infrastructure managed by Plava Laguna, has also been awarded the FIFA QUALITY mark.
Apart from the excellent accommodation, climate and sports infrastructure, the FIFA certificate is yet another reason why professional football teams and clubs would choose Umag, Poreč and Plava Laguna as their training and competition venue.
