Plava Laguna has partnered with beekeeper organisations: The Beekeeper Association Nektar Poreč (Udruga Nektar Poreč) and The Beekeeper Association of Bujština (Udruga Pčelara Bujštine) to launch the Bee Sweet to the Bees initiative, aiming to support the survival and wellbeing of bees in Istra.
The idea blossomed during the holiday season 2024, when Plava Laguna gifted business partners with locally produced honey. In spring 2025 Plava Laguna contiunued with relatable activities by planting varius kind of honey flowers around the resorts and campsites to help bees in the area thrive.
The iniciative took flight in March with the planting of rosemary, followed by batches of aromatic and summer flower in June. The planting strategy focuses on species that bloom during July and August, a period known as the nectar dearth, when nectar sources are limited and bees struggle to find food.
Bees are vital pollinators, contributing to food production, ecosystem health, and biodiversity.

During the summer season in Poreč and Umag, guests can taste local honey and find out more about the importance of bees in food production during presentations held by local beekeepers from Poreč and Umag at the Istra Experience info points – in Zelena Resort and Camping Park Umag. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about, taste, and buy local honey directly from beekeepers.
If in Poreč, visit the Istria Experience info point in Zelena Resort – every Wednesday from 7:30 PM.
If in Umag, come to Camping Park Umag and visit the Istria Experience info point – 12/08/2025 and 26/08/2025 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Photo contest and photo exhibiton „Save the Bees“
As part of the initiative, Plava Laguna is also supporting and promoting a photo contest with the theme “bees at work”, which celebrates these hard workers. The photo contest is traditionally organised by the Beekeeper Association of Bujština (Udruga Pčelara Bujštine). Plava Laguna is organising a photo exhibition to feature the artworks in the newly opened Hotel Pelegrin Plava Laguna in Umag.
The exhibition will display a selection of photos from previous contests during September 2025.

Join the photo contest and encapture moments of bees at work. This competition is open from 20.04. to 30.09.2025. To take part, join the Facebook group: “Bee sweet to the Bees - Save the Bees ” and upload your submission! The photos will go through a professional jury and the winner will receive a special price including yummy locally produced honey.

This autumn, in Zelena Resort, Plava Laguna is unveiling a unique addition: a “hotel” for solitary bees and other pollinators. These eco-friendly shelters are built from natural materials such as bamboo, reed, and wood, offering safe nesting sites for species like mason bees.
This initiative will be brought to life as part of our partnership with the beekeeper association Nektar (Udruga Pčelara Nektar) from Poreč.
